A ramble on past comics [4/5]: ROGUE SOUP & BUG

I saw my first Kaiju Big Battel show, along with Les Savy Fav, at Mass Art in 2002 and I was an instant fan. One of my college friends eventually started performing with them and I’d also become friendly with some of the performers/ designers.

I don’t recall when/how creator Rand Borden sent me the “Rogue Soup & Bug” treatment, but I dove head first into it immediately after being laid off from my last straight graphic design job around 2008. It was a masochistic undertaking to work on a 176-page comic where the main character is an anthropomorphic soup can without a face (the titular one-eyed Bug doing much of the heavy lifting, storytelling-wise).

This graphic novel is currently my only physical book that you can order online, so mosey over to Kaiju.com if you dig off-the-wall action and manga in-jokes (and definitely catch a Kaiju Big Battel live show if they’re in your town!).
